The easiest way to make money is none other than with Google Adsense. There are a countless number of programs out there but many are expensive, require lots of effort or are just flat-out scams. Your best bet would be to start a free blog and monetize it with Adsense. Go to http://www.adsense.com/and register for an account. Fill out the application truthfully (you wouldn't want your checks going to your neighbour, would you?), and if you're new to this, start with Adsense for content which is the simplest and most straight forward. Follow the instructions and copy the html code provided to your blog. Relevant ads should start appearing as soon as Google has checked your site content. Gradually, set up all the ad display formats offered by Adsense.
And no, blogger is not the only place where you can start a blog. There's Wordpress, Typepad and many others. I strongly suggest using Wordpress as you can have multiple pages and there are dozens of features like trackbacks and pingbacks. The likes of CNN, Yahoo, Ford and many others use it, so you needn't doubt it's quality. Typepad is a paid service, however, their templates are stunning. You can find more information athttp://www.wordpress.com/ and http://www.typepad.com/ respectively.
Once you've selected the service, you"ll have to decide on what you want to blog about. I'd tell you to go with your passions, but if you really want to monetize with Adsense, you'll have to go with topics that are highly competitive, with advertisers bidding up to $30 or more per click. Google never reveals how much it shares with publishers (that's you, the site owner) but many sources speculate that it's between 40% to 50%. That means that if the advertiser is bidding $30 per click, you can get as much as $15 if someone clicks on that ad on your blog. From my experience, financial related topics such as 'mortgages', 'loans', and 'investments' are gold. But of course, the highest paying topics are constantly changing as advertisers tweak their advertising campaigns (Even 'Cancer' has taken top spot several times).
So, my advice is to search for 'Most expensive keyword on Google' or something to that end. Keywords are the actual words that people search for at search engines. Then, you can simply check out the highest paying keywords from the websites that come up and build a blog centering on that topic. But make sure you know enough about the topic and provide first-rate information that people will really find useful.
If you already know exactly what you want to blog about, there's this nifty, little program called Spyfu(www.spyfu.com) When you type in your topic (your keyword), it tells you how much the highest bid is, how many people are bidding on that keyword and much more. It might seem a little complicated initially but for starters, all you need to look at is the larger amount in the Cost/Click column. So for example, if I typed in 'Insurance', the Cost/Click column shows $0.96 - $16.00. I then half $16.00, which is $8.00, the approximate amount I can get if someone clicks on the highest bidding ad for that keyword. So basically, the higher the second figure shown, the better.
Once your blog is set up and ready, you'll then need to drive traffic to it. I suggest using forums such as Yahoo Answers and uploading videos to Youtube. Yahoo and Youtube are the second and third most trafficked sites on the internet respectively, behind only to Google, so imagine the traffic you'll get from them. Don't forget to watermark your videos with your url and add your url in your video descriptions. Use all other free methods you can think of. Save the paid methods for later, when you've become more experienced.
And if you need content for your blog, you can go to http://www.ezinearticles.com orhttp://www.goarticles.com They're the largest article repositories on the web and have content for just about every topic conceivable. But always adhere to the usage requirements of the authors or content providers (you could get into a heap of trouble by not doing so). With ezinearticles and goarticles, you basically cannot edit the content at all.
That's pretty much an overview of how you earn through Adsense. Off course, there are many other factors such as site design, ad placements and so on. For much more information, you can check out this ebook called 'Building Your Own Adsense Empire'. You can find it at http://www.e-junkie.com/j-sep. It goes into detail about site design, ad positions, website marketing and a whole lot more.
